It has been an eventful season here at Hereford, which we got underway on Wednesday 29 November. Current leading jockey and trainer, Richard Johnson and Warren Greatrex, got an early win in the bag that day with Peculiar Places.
Johnson and Greatrex teamed up again with Rock My Style, who was victorious in the myracing.com Maiden Hurdle on Tuesday 16 January, quickly followed by another win for the Stobart Champion Jockey at the Darts Day Challenge raceday on Arthur Mac for Philip Hobbs.
With three Hereford wins on the board, local lad Johnson was well on his way to defending his 2016/17 crown but has faced a fresh challenge in recent weeks. One of the top young talents in the weighing room, Sean Bowen managed to ride a fabulous four timer on Ladies Day. Each winner coming for different trainers, Sean certainly set his stall out in the race to be Hereford’s leading jockey.
Colt Lightning, Misty Mai, Lord Bryan and Beau Bay has shot Bowen to the winning most jockey of the season and only 1 point away from the current leader, Richard Johnson.
Jockeys and trainers are awarded points depending on where they finish in each race.
1st – 10 points
2nd – 5 points
3rd – 2 points
4th – 1 point
