Hereford Racecourse is delighted to be partnering with Virgin Balloons and Lindsay Muir, the world’s most successful female competition pilot, to offer you breathtaking hot air balloon rides launching from Hereford Racecourse. Enjoy seeing some of the county’s finest views from above, as you fly tranquilly up up and away over the finest countryside Herefordshire has to offer.
You will help with preparation of the balloon for flight before climbing aboard for the experience of a lifetime and enjoying a magical mystery tour in the sky as the balloon flies with the wind and cannot be steered. Post flight, enjoy a celebratory glass of Champagne with the crew before returning to Hereford Racecourse in a minibus. Virtually anyone can fly in a balloon (old or young) but you do need to be able to climb in and out of the basket and be able to walk a short distance across a field. Children need to be tall enough to see over the side of the basket (about 4’6″ / 1.35m).
In 1988, our pilot Lindsay Muir became the first (and only) female pilot to become British Champion, a feat she repeated in 1996. Lindsay has competed in most World Air Games and European Hot Air Balloon Championships since 1989 and on several occasions gained a top 10 placing. She has been Ladies World Cup champion 4 times, Ladies European Champion and competition flying has taken her to over 25 countries around the world. Lindsay is also one of the most experienced passenger balloon pilots in the country having started in the business in 1989 and spent time flying passengers in Melbourne, Stockholm and Bagan (Myanmar). Lindsay is also a balloon instructor and inspector.
